Oliver Sage

Gallows Gallery presents another exhibition by Oliver Sage, ‘Figuratively Speaking’.

Featuring his recognisable sculptures in copper and a collection of paintings, Sage demonstrates his aptitude in these two mediums where the figure is the main element.

The sculptures make a direct reference to mythology where creatures such as the mermaid and the minotaur are a strong presence.  Sage develops his own interpretation of these iconic forms with a sense of empathy for these subjects.  Sage also describes the abstract nature of emotion in his work with effectiveness through his technique of patinating welded copper forms.

In his painting, Sage recalls memories of observations from time spent abroad, inspirational themes from songs he identifies with and stories that he relates to where there are rich metaphorical references to the nature of life and society
