Gallows Gallery

Peter Fitzsimmons is to have another solo exhibition at Gallows Gallery during 8th June – 8th July, called ‘After the Fire’. This exhibition is a follow-up to his fiery figurative paintings depicting Flamenco dance in 2004. This time Fitzsimmons refers in a literal way to the aftermath of bushfire.

These distilled paintings evoke the eerily peaceful and quiet atmosphere of a devastated landscape in the wake of raging fires.  The paintings, which are oil and acrylic on canvas, are also optimistic reflections on the regenerative powers of the earth and, therefore are precursory to rebirth.  The smokey palette of greys and blues are veil-like with glimpses of golden yellowy reds effectively conveying the image of fire-ravaged trees.
