Tim Macfarlane Reid is a West Australian Sculptor, practicing for the past 14 years.  He is currently preparing for his fifth solo exhibition, with an exciting new body of sculpture encompassing the theme Resonate, to be held at Gallows Gallery.

Macfarlane Reid has exhibited large scale outdoor sculptures at the Sculpture by the Sea Exhibitions for the past three years.  In 2007, he was awarded the Director’s Prize for his work at Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe, and the Iceberg's Signature Prize for his work at Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi.  His recent abstract work “Origins” at Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe in March 2008 was listed as a “highlight of this year’s show” by the Sculpture by the Sea organisers. Macfarlane Reid has been invited to exhibit at Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe in March of 2009.

The body of work for Resonate will include sculpture in Steel, Austen Steel, Bronze, Timber and Copper.  Macfarlane Reid's sculptures resonate with an inner presence, giving them meaning which speaks to the viewer while lending gravity to the space they occupy.  While biomorphic forms run through the body of work, Macfarlane Reid is also concerned with issues of scale and spatial relations in sculpture.  Many of the works for Resonate include two or three forms, interconnected to make one sculpture in an exploration of this spatial placement.  This approach to his compositions is a direct result of Macfarlane Reid's recent work in large scale sculptures, which are site specific and respond to the landscape and architecture around them.

The sculptures for Resonate will vary in scale from small, intimate pieces to large scale outdoor works.

‘ResonateSculpture 2008’ will be opened by Jenny Kerr, of Artsource W.A., on Friday 19th September 2008 at 6:00 pm.
